Previous FBI chief James the ex-FBI chief has pleaded not guilty to giving untrue testimony to lawmakers and hindering a congressional proceeding.

The former director's lawyer entered the response on his behalf in a federal court in the Virginia city of Alexandria on mid-week.

The defense lawyer stated he would attempt to have the case dismissed for various factors including that his the accused, a critic of former President Trump, was being targeted.

The former director was formally accused soon after the former president urged his attorney general to proceed against him.

Court Developments

In court on Wednesday, his attorney Mr Fitzgerald informed the judge they planned to submit several petitions to throw out the case before a trial, claiming the government's case was spiteful and that a federal prosecutor was unlawfully assigned to take over the proceedings.

The former director's legal matter was first managed by the original attorney, who resigned under influence from the former president after his examination into a different opponent - NY AG Letitia James - failed to initiate prosecution.

The former director came across in positive mood as he entered the legal venue on Wednesday, chatting with his legal team and making jokes. He was joined by his spouse, Mrs Failor and child his daughter, a federal prosecutor who the Trump administration dismissed.

Following the reading to the judge read his legal protections and the two counts against him in legal proceedings on mid-week, James Comey was questioned if he comprehended the charges.

James Comey was the FBI Director from four years and was fired about several months into Donald Trump's first administration as national leader. At the moment, Mr Comey was directing an probe into Russian election interference and whether there were any links between Russia and the election effort.
