Egyptian Diplomatic Chief Calls On Hamas to Embrace the US Gaza Proposal and Disarm

Egypt and Doha are currently engaged in diplomatic moves to urge Hamas to comply with Donald Trump's proposal to halt the conflict in Gaza, as stated by Egypt's top diplomat.

Increasing Diplomatic Pressure on the Group

Egypt's foreign minister declared that the moment has arrived for Hamas to lay down its weapons and not give Israeli forces any justification to persist in its operations in Gaza, where 28 Palestinians were killed on Friday.

“Hamas should not be used as an excuse for the relentless killing of innocents, a situation that has worsened significantly since last year,” the minister remarked.

He noted that Cairo is “in close contact with Qatar and Turkey to persuade Hamas to agree to the terms”.

Details of the US Initiative

This proposal would necessitate the group to:

  • Lay down its arms and exit politics
  • Hand over the remaining 48 hostages from the previous year's events, with 20 are thought to survive

As part of the deal, Israel would:

  • Gradually withdraw its forces from Gaza
  • Succeeded by an international force
  • Accept a interim administration headed by the former president

Observers agree that the plan would effectively terminate the group's role as an armed Palestinian resistance group, while Israel would offer limited compromises.

Split Opinions within the Faction

The organization is divided over its reaction, with some members seeking additional time to review the terms.

A senior commander has resisted the proposal, viewing it as a tactic to eliminate the group if they agree.

Sources close to the group report that Hamas is likely to propose amendments regarding:

  • The requirement to lay down arms
  • Continued presence of military in the area
  • Safeguards that the group’s leadership will not be attacked

Gaza Situation Intensifies

Israel persisted in its military actions in Gaza City and bombardment across the territory on Friday, claiming the lives of 28 people.

Eleven of the those killed were in the northern city, while the rest perished in southern Gaza, with three in an Israeli drone strike in al-Masawi, which had been previously designated a secure area.

The Israeli military issued its final warning for the city on Wednesday, with the top defense official announcing that those who stay would be deemed affiliated with armed groups, a designation that violates global norms.

Numerous of people remain unable to leave in the urban area, including those who lack the means for the trip to the south, which reportedly costs over a thousand dollars.

“Many people are left to sleep along the roads until they can find shelter,” stated Sarah Davies.

The UN reported that there is no safe place for those escaping Gaza City, as locations declared as protected spaces in the south are dangerous.

A UN official called the notion of a safe zone as “unrealistic”, stating that bombs are launched with “chilling predictability” and shelters serving as safe havens are often destroyed.

Hospitals under Overwhelming Demand

Healthcare centers in southern Gaza are stretched to the limit, with the Red Cross field hospital treating more than double its normal limits.

Recently, a major medical facility took in the remains of 27 individuals of people fatally wounded by the Israeli military.

The head of paediatrics referred to the circumstances as “extremely difficult”.

Israel has been accused of striking doctors and clinics, with healthcare professional reportedly taken while traveling to work in the area.

Authorities has asserted that apprehended doctors had connections to the group, though without providing evidence.

Fatalities from hostilities in Gaza has reached at least 62,622 Palestinians dead and approximately 170,000 wounded, per the medical sources.
